10 Best Female Guitarists Of All Time
5. Joni Mitchell
Hailing originally from the lost lands of Alberta, Canada, Joni Mitchell is one of the most important figures in the folk music scene.
Her career grew with her as she took to the streets from an early age, busking away for the money needed to fund her debut album, A Song To A Seagull, first released all the way back in 1968. Her songs were often collaborated with or covered by various other artists within the community, helping her carve out a real name for herself and become one of the scene's biggest and most important players.
As her talents began to receive more and more recognition, Joni began to experiment with her style and sound. Her open-tuned guitar grew more adventurous, incorporating elements of rock, classic and even some R&B components.
Joni and her 'weird chords' as she calls them remain utterly legendary. She has played guitar in almost every single one of her songs, showing immense flexibility in moving from a delicate, intricate plucking to a far more freer sounding strumming by the time her later albums dropped.
