10 Best Hard Rock Albums Since 2010
6. Slipknot - We Are Not Your Kind
While there were many highlights, Slipknot's run in the 2010's was not a pleasant one. After losing founding member Paul Gray and monster drummer Joey Jordison, the band released the album .5 The Gray Chapter in tribute to their fallen bassist and began to regroup. As the band soldiered on, more business difficulties led to the band parting ways with additional percussionist Chris Fehn. With a third of the classic 9 gone, could the band still carry on?
In a rapid-fire assault back at their doubters, We Are Not Your Kind was the album that Slipknot needed to truly bring themselves back from the edge. The band has an enhanced ferocity across the album as they deal with issues of depression and existentialism on songs like "Unsainted" and "Nero Forte." The rhythm section delivers some of the craziest fills of the band's career while the atmospherics brought in give the record a chilling atmosphere that was a delightful change of pace. Corey Taylor's shrieks on here are also some of the best he's delivered since the Iowa days.
In an era of great struggle, the hard times demanded even harder tunes, and Slipknot delivered in spades with We Are Not Your Kind.
