10 Best Hard Rock Music Videos Of The 2010s
6. Headbanger – King Tuff (2014)
Comedy website and production company Funny or Die facilitated this music video. The company is most widely known for its online skits written by the likes of Judd Apatow. Their most popular series, Between Two Ferns, is a semi-fictional talk show hosted by Zach Galifianakis.
This video followed a similar concept. It depicts the unenthusiastic Ian Coverdale (played by former Sex Pistol Steve Jones) as he counts down the most mediocre pop songs of the week on 'Bottom of the Pops'.
This was an example of musicians having fun by parodying the conventions of rock that came before them. It was full of good natured fun. The band takes on the persona of all those cheesy and over enthusiastic rock acts that would lip sync when appearing on shows like Top of the Pops. Throughout the performance are displayed freeze frames of fictitious bands who appeared on the show, including 'Modern Friendship', 'Cowboy Scott' and 'Skankenstein'.
In a decade when rock was finding its feet again, it was refreshing to see an act not take itself too seriously. This was one of the least pretentious and most entertaining videos going.
Although the song is almost a parody in itself, don't be fooled. King Tuff released some of the most exciting rock music of the last decade.
