10 Best IDLES Songs

5. Great

This song is verifiably a bop and a song about how great Britain could be. This is reminiscent of the Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip song called Great Britain. It is also reminiscent of it in terms of method - where both songs refer to tabloid headlines, their inaccuracies and the devastating effect these can have.

An example of them countering the headlines is “Islam didn’t eat your hamster”, which warns against the rife islamophobia. The song also mocks the ludicrous desire to have blue passports.

Although this is a crude over-simplification of the Brexit vote, it does represent the politics and sensibilities of the band very neatly - they stand for unity and bringing people together, rather than the insular mode that has overtaken the UK.
