10 Best IDLES Songs

3. Mother

Here again is some anthemic anti-conservative rhetoric; often precluded at gig with Joe shouting 'I am a feminist', it's definitely a feminist anthem and contains some very astute teachings in the middle part of the track.

It suits many IDLES fans' sensibilities as a self-proclaimed feminist and shows the way Joe feels in debt to his wife for her efforts in bringing up their child whilst he is on tour.

The one lyric that stands out is: “sexual violence doesn't start and end with r*pe, it starts in our books and through our school gates”, showing the role education plays in further entrenching sexism. If this isn’t addressed then there will forever be a divide and inequality.
