10 Best Lana Del Rey Songs

6. The Greatest

Sometimes it feels unfair to consider The Greatest as just a song. It begins with soft instrumentals and Del Rey's reminiscences of her younger days with his friends. She tells us about how she misses the places they used to go, the things they used to do. We feel nostalgic for a place and time we have never been as we listen to it.

The lyrics of this track sometimes resemble diary entries or a conversation between friends. However, the story is quite dark underneath all that nostalgia for the 'good old days'. Lana talks about everything she misses in a way that makes us understand that she will never get it back, and now she can only keep her memories.

The instruments used in the production of this song are almost perfect and particularly fit the theme. Each verse and chorus gets lighter as the song progresses. In the end, when Del Rey runs out of things to say, we find an almost two-minute piano outro that gives us a moment to remember our own greatest loss.
