The final track on Meteora is one of Linkin Park’s most successful singles. Granted, it’s rooted in the band’s signature sound, but it stands out simply because of how powerful it is.
Lyrically, the song addresses the pressure to do what is expected of us, and how we become numb in order to shield ourselves from this undesirable expectation.
In tandem with this unusual yet relatable subject matter, the vocal delivery from Bennington is wrought with sadness and frustration. The pain in his voice during both the chorus and the bridge is particularly chilling.
Though Linkin Park’s first two albums are stuffed with catchy numbers, 'Numb' is undeniably one of the best tracks from their earlier years.
