10 Best Manchester Albums Of The 2010s

5. Harry Styles - Harry Styles (2017)

It is easy to forget that Harry Styles spent his pre-fame days wandering Manchester.

The city is responsible for some of his coy English charm and some of his current rockstar cool. The former One Direction singer spent the majority of his childhood in nearby Cheshire, so Styles let fans know how much Manchester means to him on his self-titled album tour.

The 2017 tour coincided with the tragic Manchester Arena Bombing, with Styles confessing at show in Mexico City “I have been left with a hole in my heart”.

We hope Styles can do the city proud again on a second album, with the first proudly indebted to 1970s soft rock. Lead single Sign of The Times makes us miss David Bowie, but also insanely excited for Harry's musical future.

Kiwi is a stone-cold banger, and will silence any critic that the Styles lacks any talent. While the album doesn't sound uniquely Mancunian, Styles looks set to have the most fruitful post-1D career from the success of this worldwide hit.

In October 2019, Harry Styles released the first single called Lights Up from his next album. Bringing a range of instruments back into mainstream pop seems to be his mantra, and we're all for it.
