10 Best Metal Albums Of The 2000s - Ranked

7. Amon Amarth – Twilight Of The Thunder God

Melodic death metal giants Amon Amarth released their now iconic concept album in 2008, and Twilight Of The Thunder God lives up to its stellar reputation more than any record the band has released since.

Top praise here goes to the lyric writing, based on Norse thunder god Thor and his slaying of a serpent known as Jormungandr. The album tells the story in a heavy but pleasant manner, despite the fact that Johan Hegg’s vocals carry some serious aggression.

The rest of the Amon Amarth also put in impressive performances, and the guitar work is beyond excellent, especially throughout the now classic riff of the album’s title track. In terms of stand-out tracks, the aforementioned title track is easily the albums most recognisable, but Guardians Of Asgaard is also a great song, and an underrated gem.
