10 Best Metal EPs Of 2017 (So Far)

5. Oranssi Pazuzu - Kevät/Värimyrsky

Technically, Oranssi Pazuzu's first ever EP, Kevät / Värimyrsky, should actually be considered a double A-side single, due to the fact that it only has two songs on it and is named after that duo of tracks. However, the release is marketed as an EP and is over sixteen minutes long, so it definitely earns its place on this list.

Kevät / Värimyrsky is a dark, gorgeously despondent ride that fuses classic, Scandinavian black metal with '60s-style space rock, resulting in one of the most depressive aural rides of the year. It is an EP that attacks the ear with so many techniques at its disposal, thanks entirely to Oranssi Pazuzu's six-person line-up, allowing for the inclusion of such instruments as the synthesiser and the organ.

Front-man Jun-His has one of the most disturbing vocal deliveries in all of rock, wailing as if in agony over the top of the deep, crushing guitar chords and slow percussion of the rest of the EP.

If you're a black metal fanatic that has somehow skipped over the glorious darkness of Oranssi Pazuzu, Kevät / Värimyrsky is a perfect bite-size chunk to introduce the band's brilliance, before one of their LP's lets you dive in even deeper.
