Clearly channelling the spirit of Alanis Morrissette, Meredith Brooks announced herself with a debut single called... well, it's got a rude title.

Brooks, who had had minor chart success in the past as part of The Graces, showed off all of her "attitude" during this song, extolling the virtues of the many facets of her life.

It's a feminist anthem through and through, highlighting all the different roles a woman can fulfil in life and making no apologies for any of them.

Also, the music video is the most painfully 90s thing of all time. A guy literally floats in on a skateboard. It's like a cliche come to life.

This song reached the top ten on both sides of the pond and scored heaps of award nominations for its performer. It even landed her a gig opening for the Rolling Stones!

That would have been a much better offer 30 years earlier, but still!

Brooks never managed to follow up on its success though, as her next song to chart barely scraped the top 50.
