10 Best One-Hit Wonders In Rock Music History

7. My Own Worst Enemy - Lit

If you programmed an AI to write you a late 90s pop punk song, chances are it would probably churn out My Own Worst Enemy by Lit.

It's got all the calling cards of the genre; whiny vocals; a self-pitying male protagonist; power chords out the wazoo; a wacky music video.

Check, check, and check.

After a disappointing response to their first album, Lit made sure that their next record would be much more appreciated. My Own Worst Enemy served as the lead single and, after initially underwhelming, it soon became a very big deal.

It topped the alternative charts in America and rocketed up to 16th in the UK. The album it was on, A Place in the Sun, went platinum thanks to its efforts.

Despite the song's enduring popularity, Lit could never manage to follow it up. The song Over My Head managed 37 in the UK, but this was their final single to appear in the mainstream chart of any country.

Still, that hasn't stopped the band from plugging away.

Their most recent came out in 2022, so maybe they'll get that follow-up hit one day.

Or maybe the moment has been and gone.
