10 Best Rock Album Openers Of The 1980s

1. Ace Of Spades - Motorhead (Ace Of Spades)

An excellent opening track, an excellent title track, an excellent track in general. What more is there to say about Motorhead's frantic masterpiece, Ace of Spades?

Releasing just ahead of the 1980 album of the same name, Ace of Spades (the song) is a speed metal number all about gambling. The risk of a high stakes situation, the glory of victory, the general skeeziness of it all, this was Motorhead to a tee. Even if Lemmy himself said that he preferred fruit machines.

The song arrives, does what it needs to do, and then leaves. Nothing fancy, just pure, honest-to-goodness heavy metal. And people went mad for it.

People still go mad for it now. It's Motorhead's most streamed song on Spotify by a country mile, as more and more people discover its brutal brilliance for themselves.

Few songs capture the essence of a band quite like this one does. If you'd never heard Motorhead before, then just the opening ten seconds of Ace of Spades would tell you everything you needed to know.

A phenomenal track from some true legends, Ace of Spades is one opening track that's very tough to follow.
