10 Best Rock Bands With Only Two Members

8. The Kills

Formerly known as VV and Hotel, respectively, American singer Alison Mosshart and English guitarist Jamie Hince formed The Kills in 2001 after they were both part of other bands on the punk scene.

Mosshart practically begged Hince to perform with her, which is a decision that seriously paid off.

With just Hince's guitar to work with, the two worked on lo-fi music with the aid of a drum machine for their early tapes; a style that they perfected enough to make it their signature going forward. Slightly off-key and very menacing, The Kills' idiosyncratic approach to garage rock soon won them legions of dedicated fans.

Though Mosshart may be the official lead singer of the band, and the vocalist of supergroup The Dead Weather, Hince is no slouch on the microphone either. Their singing shouldn't work together, but their conflicting voices create a beautiful dissonance that perfectly compliments the band's grungey sound.

They've never been a commercial powerhouse, but The Kills are highly respected by those in the know and have forged a path completely of their own without the help of a full backing group.
