10 Best Rock Music Videos Of The 1980s
8. White Wedding Pt. 1 - Billy Idol
In 1982, two years after he directed Under Pressure's music video, David Mallet had a lot more to work with when Billy Idol was actually available to make the music video for White Wedding.
Once again, Mallet had a pretty good framework to work with. The song is about a white wedding, so just make the video about that.
Easy peasy.
Never one to take the simple route though, the director constructed a dark ceremony for this video, complete with men in hoods and enough candles to give a fire safety inspector a heart attack.
The sight of Idol's bleached blonde hair popping against the dark background of the church is mesmerising, as this video takes all of the "dark wedding" stereotypes you've ever seen and does them to perfection.
From Billy smashing through a stained glass window on his motorbike, to actor Perri Lister intentionally cutting herself on a barbed wire ring to add to the realism, this video has so many great set pieces that have ensured it is still looked back on fondly.
It probably inspired a fair few actual weddings too, although hopefully none of them used real barbed wire.
