10 Best Sequels To Incredible Albums

2. Eminem – The Marshall Mathers LP2

When Eminem first released ‘The Marshall Mathers LP’, it catapulted him to mainstream success with iconic singles like ‘The Real Slim Shady’, ‘The Way I Am’ and ‘Stan’. So you can see the appeal of wanting to return to his roots and issue a second instalment. This wasn’t the first time Eminem (or any rapper) made sequel albums after all, like ‘Relapse’ and ‘Recovery’ (and later ‘Revival’).

‘The Marshall Mathers LP2’ is a critical/commercial return to form for Eminem, with standout tracks ‘Bad Guy’, ‘Survival’, ‘The Monster’ and ‘Headlights’. The cover includes a picture of Eminem’s childhood home, only it’s in a worse state than before compared to the TMMLP, which had Eminem sat on the porch. He’s persistently aggressive as he is nostalgic throughout. He raps as if he was competing/winning. You feel there’s a sense of purpose that was missing on the records that came before when Eminem was either battling or recently recovering from his prescription drug addiction. He raps on Berzerk: “I’m about to bloody this track up so everybody get back. That’s why my pen needs a pad because my rhymes on the rag. Just like I did with addiction I’m about to kick it.”

Rex Jones hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
