10 Best Solo Albums From Former Rock Band Members

7. Mr. Bad Guy - Freddie Mercury

Though Queen never technically broke up, they were on a recording hiatus when Freddie Mercury released his solo album, Mr. Bad Guy. That might be cheating slightly, but any opportunity to talk about this wonderful collection of songs must be taken.

Mercury's first foray into solo work focussed more on contemporary dance-based music, rather than the bombastic rock overtures that fans had become used to, as the frontman chose to pursue his passion for disco and synth-pop.

Whilst they were never going to pack out stadiums, the songs on Mr. Bad Guy were jam-packed with personality, enthusiasm, and joy... well, except for There Must Be More to Life Than This, which is actually very sad.

Still, it's good sad!

This would be the only album ever released purely under Mercury's name, as his other solo effort was a collection of duets with Spanish soprano Montserrat Caballé. Queen returned to the studio in 1986 for A Kind of Magic, and the band stuck together until the singer's untimely passing in 1991.

Still, at least the world got to experience Freddie unleashed, even if it was only the once.
