10 Best Solo Albums From Former Rock Band Members

6. Lust For Life - Iggy Pop

The Stooges were one of those bands that were never appreciated in their own time.

They were pioneering a style of raw, unfiltered rock that wouldn't become widely accepted until many years later, which was when people started to look back and go "Oh yeah! Those guys were great!" By that point, the band's frontman had already found fame on his own.

Iggy Pop had teamed up with David Bowie to produce his first album, The Idiot, in March 1977, and he had so much fun that he decided to put out a second disc six months later. Lust For Life was another Bowie collaboration, but featured Pop's charismatic performances more prominently, and people lapped it up.

This combination of flamboyant showmanship and hard rock grit sent the album into the UK top 30, remaining Pop's highest-charting album for almost 40 years, and the title song soon took on a life of its own, getting regular radio play and movie spots ever since.

After years of being a cult hero, Lust for Life was Iggy finally getting the spotlight he had so wholeheartedly earned.
