10 Best Songs Under 2 Mins

2. The End - My Chemical Romance

Length: 1:52

With two albums under their belt, My Chemical Romance wanted to go in a different direction with their sound. Though they had cultivated the emo rock genre on Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, Gerard Way had other plans for a full fledged rock opera revolving around a man stricken with cancer. Like all rock operas, things had to start off right, and "The End." sounded like kicking down the door of your mind.

Starting off with just a simple acoustic guitar, the song plods along nicely enough until the drums drop you into the middle of the scene. As Gerard waxes poetic about his contusions and his inability to know what it's like to grow up, the music builds around him, as if the narrator is trying to cling onto every little bit of life he has left inside him.

For as great of a song this is on its own, it also works perfectly as a companion piece to the track "Dead!," which starts you on the narrative of the story. Even though the song really ends right as it was beginning to get going, this is a good example of a song that sets the scene for something even greater on the horizon. It was going to get a lot darker from here, and "The End." is where you strap in.
