10 Best Supergroups In Hard Rock And Metal
3. Temple of the Dog
For as much as grunge music happened to breath new life into the music, it was hard to get over the massive undercurrents of death floating above everything. While most of the music was already coated in a haze that came with overindulging in drugs, the entire scene itself seemed to be bookended with deaths in the family. Though Kurt Cobain marked the end of the grunge revolution, the first casualty with Andy Wood wrought its greatest supergroup with Temple of the Dog.
Since Chris Cornell roomed with Wood for most of their creative lives, he started to write one off tribute songs to his fallen friend before showing them to his former bandmates in Mother Love Bone. Loving what they heard, the musicians decided to form an impromptu group called Temple of the Dog while the former Love Bone members searched for a new lead singer.
Eventually finding one in Eddie Vedder and morphing into Pearl Jam, this record acts as somewhat of an incubation chamber for where those initial riffs came from, with songs like Times of Trouble showcasing the forelorn melodic structure that would become a staple of the genre for the next few years. Even though both of these acts weren't all that famous on their own yet, it wouldn't take long before we realized the rock and roll juggernaut that we were missing out on.
