10 Biggest Backstabbing Moments In Rock History

6. Michael Anthony - Van Halen

It's almost unfair to call Michael Anthony the 4th greatest part about Van Halen. Despite having one of the most badass bass designs in the shape of a Jack Daniels' bottle, it's impossible to shine through when you have people like David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen on either side of you. While those two have had their ups and downs in terms of relationship drama, Anthony really deserved a much better hand than he was ultimately dealt.

After showing himself to be loyal to the band time and time again, things started to shift once Sammy Hagar started to enter the picture. Often being the pal working off of Hagar both on and off the stage, Anthony's role in the musical side of things started to wither in the '90s, with Van Halen III making his iconic backing vocals and bass nearly inaudible to make room for Eddie's guitar work.

The biggest slap in the face had to be the new reinvention of the band with Eddie's song Wolfie playing the bass parts, which culminated in at least one instance where they tried to erase Anthony's likeness from the classic albums that he played on. Michael Anthony might not be the most photogenic member of the Van Halen squad, but those in the know really do realize what makes him such a revered musician of the late '70s.
