10 Biggest Backstabbing Moments In Rock History

2. Jason Newsted - Metallica

When you deal with tragedies in rock and roll, everyone has their own unique way of grieving. As much as you might deal with the confusion of the loss of a friend, you always need to find a bit of an outlet to let those raw nerves out. Though Metallica were in drastic need of that kind of outlet after the loss of Cliff Burton, it probably wasn't the best idea to turn on the guy they hired to replace him.

As a raw player, Jason Newsted seemed to fit in just fine next to the rest of the band, nailing songs like Master of Puppets when he first joined the group. Taking to the road while getting hazed in the process, the real mean-spirited fun came at the expense of the next album And Justice for All. Though Newsted's riffs are sprinkled throughout songs like Blackened, the bass is virtually inaudible, which could have been another way to have him prove himself on the road than in the studio.

While Metallica eventually loosened up with Jason over the years, the massive amounts of ridicule had taken their toll on him, eventually leading to him quitting the band when he was told not to pursue other interests. Take note any recent bands: no matter how much you may think you have the goods, it really pays to treat the rest of your band with respect.
