7. Red Hot Chili Peppers Blood Sugar Sex Magik Tour
It was almost an anomaly seeing the Red Hot Chili Peppers get as big as they did at the start of the '90s. Taking off just before the alternative movement kicked into high gear, it was mind boggling seeing stuff like Under the Bridge and Give It Away gain traction in the age of Guns N Roses and the more embarrassing content of Warrant. However, if the Peppers knew the magic they had on the ensuing tour, they would be heralded as alt-rock Nostradamuses today.
On the exact same day that the Peppers released Blood Sugar Sex Magik, a little album known as Nevermind started to make waves from Seattle band Nirvana. Looking to take them out on the road, the rest of the bill was rounded out by another Seattle act by the name of Pearl Jam, who absolutely annihilated every single set they played. Compared to the other support acts of the time, rarely do you ever see three of these heavyhitting acts all at the top of their game.
Even when Nirvana had to step off the bill for a while, the inclusion of Chicago natives the Smashing Pumpkins proved to be just as strong when gracing the stage. That paled in comparison to the Peppers, with Flea known to descend to the stage via a rope whilst hanging upside down slapping his bass. Being part circus act, part music mecca, this is exactly the kind of tour that only seems to exist in the minds of alt-rock fans. Except this one ACTUALLY CAME TRUE!!!
