10 Bizarre Metal Covers Of Classic Songs
6. Woman - Ozzy Osbourne
Given his pedigree as the Prince of Darkness, you wouldn't really expect someone like Ozzy Osbourne to be a die hard Beatles fan. It's true though, especially when you hear the Ozzman talk about songs like She Loves You being the reason why he wanted to make music in the first place. So when you put a covers album together, what do you with? Helter Skelter? Paperback Writer? Nope, we're going for the mellow side of the solo career.
Out of all of the Beatles tracks he could have pulled from, Ozzy's take on John Lennon's Woman is a lot more confusing than it should be. This is coming from the John Lennon that had practically retired from music and was living through his middle age years with ease. While Ozzy had clearly put some miles on his own soul at this point, hearing him sing this mellow ballad feels all the more strange when his earlier ballads gave us songs like Goodbye to Romance.
Still, when you look at the reasoning behind the song, it's actually kind of sweet when you think about it. Since the original was about Lennon declaring his love for Yoko Ono, this is probably the same deal, with Ozzy thanking Sharon for sticking by his side all these years. Although the mystique may have been broken just a little bit, it's kind of heartwarming to see the Prince of Darkness finding his soulmate.
