10 Blatantly Unfinished Albums (That Were Released Anyway)
4. Oasis - Be Here Now
Not so much undercooked as overdone, Be Here Now suffers from Oasis' inability to cut back the excess that bog down this album.
In fact, there are a tonne of decent songs here, with arguably more tunes than both Definitely Maybe and (What's The Story) Morning Glory? put together, that Be Here Now could have been a perfect record - if Noel Gallagher and co. hadn't decided to try their best to stretch almost every track to the seven minute mark, leading to unnecessarily elongated introductions, diversions and repetitions that might have been well executed with better musicians at the helm.
These wall of sound "experiments" might be exciting on paper, but ultimately have no placed on a record by the straightforward Britpop band who included a song about eating lasagne on their debut record.
Convinced that bigger means better, there's just too much noise and not enough substance here, with a bunch of perfectly passable songs ("D'You Know What I Mean?", "The Girl in the Dirty Shirt", the stellar "All Around the World") being rendered almost unlistenable due to their excruciatingly elongated lengths.
Unlike other records on this list, Be Here Now wasn't unfinished due to underdeveloped ideas - there are plenty here - but rather because it seemed rushed out of the studio without adequate care taken in trimming down the tracks.
