10 Christmas Songs That Make You Want To Blow Your Brains Out

2. Happy Xmas (War Is Over) - John Lennon (1971)

Key Lyrics And so this is Christmas And what have you done? Another year over And a new one just begun An utterly ghastly song about the Vietnam War, Happy Xmas has somehow sneaked its way into the canon of regularly played Christmas music to my eternal chagrin, if not a couple of other people's chagrin as well. But then, I was never a fan of John Lennon and this song cements my antipathy towards him. Why on earth did he bring Yoko Ono in on this one? The woman cannot sing and listening to her caterwauling laments on the record is an ugly assault upon the ears. And then they added a chorus of children for the background which further muddies up the record and adds to its turgidness. There is just too much going on in the song and whenever I hear it I just wish I had the ability to shut off my hearing so I don't have to listen to such a mess of a song. My second least favourite Christmas song ever.
