10 Classic Rock Acoustic Songs

3. Seasons of Wither - Aerosmith

Aerosmith have really gotten the raw end of the deal from music critics since the day they hit the big time. For as much as Steven Tyler and Joe Perry's partnership worked perfectly on songs like Walk This Way, there were always naysayers who would claim that they were a second rate copy of the Rolling Stones. Then again, Mick and Keith probably would never write a song as jaded as Seasons of Wither.

Compared to the other tracks on Get Your Wings though, Steven Tyler actually penned this tune at the very last minute, beginning as just an improvisation he hammered out on a guitar he found in a dumpster. As the strange picking figure unfolds though, the rest of the song began to take on a more haunting tone, as Tyler wrote lyrics about a wayward traveler adrift on the sea, with no real destination in sight.

Just because it's acoustic doesn't mean it loses power though, with the chorus building and building until Tyler sends everything into overdrive before going into Joe Perry's guitar break. This was just the beginning of the darker side of Aerosmith though, with songs like Janie's Got a Gun giving them new life just a decade later. While the mantra might be about sex, drugs, and rock and roll, this is where things get a lot more serious.
