10 Classic Rock Albums With Only One Bad Song
7. Tai Shan - Rush
Up until the day they decided to hang up their hats, Rush were never afraid to tackle any new material in their music. From the moment they started to experiment on Fly By Night, almost every new album had one or two new creative endeavors that were miles ahead of what they had done previously. Sometimes though, you don't realize that the same type of experimentation may be leading you towards a ditch.
While they started getting into their free jazz period during the time of Hold Your Fire, most of the singles from this era of the band like Time Stand Still remain some of the greatest songs of their career. Towards the end of the record though is Tai Shan, with a backing track that has aged about as poorly as you'd expect.
It's not like their heart wasn't in the right place. Looking to chronicle a vacation that they had taken in Asia, this loving homage to the Eastern world quickly turned into something too stupid for its own good. Compared to the other Rush songs that felt like journeys, this just feels like a few minutes of instrumental exercises that somehow made the final cut for the album. Since the band themselves aren't really fans of this song either, who are we to judge why they don't want to play it anymore?
