10 Classic Rock Artists That Died Too Soon

5. Bon Scott - AC/DC

AC/DC was the definition of rock and roll in its purest form. While most artists were dipping their toes in prog, punk, and Eastern music, these street kids from Australia delivered some of the most liberating rock and roll the 70's had ever heard. Though the guitars contributed to the snarl, the energy radiating off of frontman Bon Scott was undeniable.

Thanks to his raspy delivery and filthy lyrics, the band had a real wildman whose unstoppable bellow was only matched by his insatiable love of booze. Everything seemed to be on the upswing after the band cracked the American market with Highway to Hell, but no one could have predicted their luck running out so quickly.

After listening to the first demos for the next record, Bon went out for another night of heavy drinking. Passing out in a car in the early hours of the morning, Scott was found dead the next day having choked to death on his own vomit. Though the band's future seemed uncertain, their tribute to Scott in the form of 1980's Back in Black proved to be one of the best rock and roll albums ever made.

Even if Bon departed from this world years ago, his spirit lives on in every single song that the band plays.
