10 Classic Rock Bands That Went Disco
7. Pink Floyd
If there was one genre that seems like it was tailor made to not sell out, it would have been prog rock. Since this is the kind of music that's known to have multiple time signature changes, you're not going to see too many of them on the hit parade any time soon. When you're making one of the most ambitious albums of your career though, you sometimes find yourself getting closer to the charts without realizing it.
As Roger Waters started work on the Wall, a few of the standout songs on the record did end up taking more than a few cues from the disco scene happening at the same time. While staying rooted in the concept and the rock side of the story, you can still dance to something like Another Brick in the Wall part 2, which is built on the signature disco hi hat rhythm, as well as the little guitar stabs coming from David Gilmour.
That's not even the only disco track on the album either, with Run Like Hell having a backing track ripped right out of Studio 54, down to the echoing guitars and the relentless rhythm. For every rock fan that claimed that disco and rock and roll were pure opposites, there's still some overlap that you don't realize until you actually hear it in practice.
