10 Classic Rock Bands That Went Disco
6. Paul McCartney
Towards the end of the '70s, no one was going to tell Paul McCartney what music he was going to make anymore. Even though he could have easily retired from music after the Beatles and still be a legend, Paul went on an impressive winning streak with Wings, leading to albums that had some of the best rock songs of the '70s like Junior's Farm and Rock Show. Paul has always been a pop connoisseur though, and disco was always in the cards as Wings went on.
While there's not technically a 'disco album' in Wings' discography, there are plenty of songs that feel ripped straight out of the genre, with Silly Love Songs being one of the more obvious examples. Having a heavy emphasis on rhythm, this is the kind of song that feels like it was meant for having a good time on the dance floor, especially with Paul's indelible bassline holding the whole thing down.
That was just a drop in the bucket though, from Macca writing the song Girlfriend originally for Michael Jackson to sing on London Town to even making a prototype disco hit from the ground up on Arrow Through Me from Back to the Egg. Once disco caved in though, Paul wasn't yet done experimenting, continuing to go in an electronic direction with McCartney II. Even when disco died an ugly death at the end of the '70s, McCartney was still eager to try out whatever dance music his muse led him to.
