10 Classic Rock Songs That Mean Absolutely Nothing
2. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
Let's get one thing right off the bat here: Bohemian Rhapsody is by no means a bad song. If anything, this brainchild of Freddie Mercury deserves to be up there with some of the greatest pieces of music that have ever been made in the '70s rock scene. When you write a song that perfect though, you're going to have to find those little imperfections when you try to make sense of it.
As if the actual scene in the Bohemian Rhapsody movie didn't clue you in enough, the connecting line of this song does not come from its lyrics at all. Since this was taken from two different songs that Mercury put together, you have practically no lead up to the main event, with most of the lyrics going from a man admitting to his mother that he killed someone to calling out to Galileo for help during the operatic section.
This would be a likely candidate for one of the worst stories ever conceived in rock...if Queen didn't put every bit of their heart and soul into it. If you were to look at these lyrics on paper, something like 'scaramouch scaramouch will you do the fandango' would have sounded like one of the most ridiculous things that you've ever heard in your life. It's all about the way you present it though. The only reason why we believe it is because we know that this is coming from deep within their psyche.
