10 Classic Rock Songs That Push The 7-Minute Mark

6. Matty Groves - Fairport Convention

http://youtu.be/1it7BP5PckI And who said folk couldn€™t rock either? Taken from their folk-rock high-point album Liege and Lief, this traditional song got a pre-metal folk treatment from the group, who were still recovering from a variety of tragedies during the making of this album, including the death of their former drummer. As such, Matty Groves stomps around for the first four minutes as if it were avenging that fallen drummer€™s death in some way. Its moodiness never lets up, and almost sounds like it would be perfect in any Lord of the Rings battle scene. Its second half kicks off like the entire International Rescue fleet of Thunderbird craft all at once and never lets up, not to mention the hilarious story sung by Sandy Denny, about Matty sleeping with a Lord€™s wife, who then discovers of his wife€™s infidelity and kills them both.
