10 Classic Songs That Secretly Inspired Oasis

4. Standing Here - The Stone Roses

Growing up in the Manchester scene, Oasis always had a massive amount of respect for the Stone Roses. When the Roses eventually played their infamous show at Spike Island in the early '90s, you had both Bonehead and Noel Gallagher in attendance for the gig. That love of the band may have bled into Oasis' own work, too.

As good as Cloudburst might be as a standard Oasis song, there's potentially a good reason that it wasn't on the regular version of Definitely Maybe. Though Noel was known to crib some ideas from a lot of people around this time, this song very similar to Standing Here, which was a lost B-side for the Roses when they were making their first album.

It doesn't look like Noel really did much to change things up either, with the chords underneath and Liam's singing evoking Ian Brown's melody, only up an octave and with some different lyrics sprinkled in. Then again, the Roses never seemed to take exception to this kind of thing either, especially since they were hanging out with the guys around this time while they were trying to put the finishing touches on their album Second Coming.
