10 Cover Songs That Make Absolutely No Sense

9. Johnny B Goode - Judas Priest

For any other rock and roll band, it's not out of the question to cover Johnny B. Goode. I mean, ever since its release, the idea of playing this song in a rock and roll band feels almost mandatory for any act just starting to get the ball rolling in their garage. However, there was no one really expecting for this ode to the rock and roll lifestyle to turn so hard edged this quickly.

Originally done for a film soundtrack, Judas Priest's take on the rock and roll classic is a lot more ill advised than you probably remember. Though Ram It Down on the whole is another solid outing for the Priest, the thought of including this song just feels strange next to some of Priest's works, as Rob Halford reaches into his upper register for screams that the music of Chuck Berry never really needed.

Aside from the tonal clashing though, the rest of the song is played pretty competently, only with every single part of the magic revved up to 1000, as the dueling guitars play circles around the basic structure that we all know and love. While Priest have shown their hand at making great covers like Diamonds and Rust and The Green Manalishi, sometimes that trademark metal style can make for too much of a good thing.
