10 Dumbest Music Videos Ever Made
1. Estranged - Guns N Roses
After Appetite for Destruction, Guns N Roses couldn't really do much wrong. Leaving their hair metal counterparts in the dust, the arrival of songs like Sweet Child O Mine and Paradise City on the radio marked the beginning of something new and more rootsy than what someone like Winger was pumping out. As the '90s turned a corner though, we got a really bad case of the bloat, didn't we?
While the Use Your Illusion albums are fine pieces of music for what they are, the extravagance of every other music video from this era is almost naive in its gloriousness, with the November Rain video being Axl Rose's answer to the Godfather. That didn't seem to go very far though when it comes to Estranged, with the 9 minute song being an excuse for Axl to get as weird as he wanted to with the videos.
Aside from the few decent performance clips of the band, the point of no return comes when Axl thinks it would be a good idea to jump off a boat into the ocean and swim with dolphins, which remains one of the most questionable decisions in rock star cinema. Once you submit yourself to the dolphin love, you can't really go back, can you? This is the kind of excess that many would expect from rich rock stars, but even the guys from Spinal Tap would be telling you to tone things down here.
