10 Elvis Presley Songs Which Will Change How You Think About The King

7. Edge Of Reality

If you're not already an Elvis fan, you may never have heard this little-known gem of a track, which is as close to psychedelia as Presley would ever get. Elvis, to his relief, was nearing the end of his movie soundtrack days when he recorded Edge Of Reality, in 1968. The track first featured in the film, Live A Little, Love A Little, a comedy vehicle directed by Norman Taurog, who had helmed several previous Presley movies.

Written by the songwriting team of Bernie Baum, Bill Giant and Florence Kaye, who had a long history of providing material for Presley's films, Edge Of Reality sounds unlike anything else in the singer's discography. With strings, harmonies, stabbing brass and a decidedly unsettling vibe, this record is striking example of how versatile Presley could be.

Live A Little, Love A Little would prove to be the last film directed by Taurog, who sadly went blind shortly after production wrapped. Elvis, at this point, was just a step away from re-inventing himself yet again, by shaking off the movie years for good with a blistering TV show set – The '68 Comeback Special.
