10 Failed Songs That Became Cult Classics

8. Someday Never Comes - Creedence Clearwater Revival

Many bands have that one album that they aren't proud of in their catalog. Whether it was bad chemistry or just a period of writer's block, plenty of bands have put out lackluster material in their lifetime. However, Mardi Gras by Creedence Clearwater Revival may be one of the most ill-advised projects in the history of rock music.

Upon release, people were lining up to bash this thing, with songs that were half-baked and sounding like they were forced out just so the band could properly break up. The quality verges from tepid to outright offensive, but as time has gone on, "Someday Never Comes" continues to shine brighter than the rest.

Compared to the imitations on the rest of the record, this song sounds like it could have been a CCR hit if it were released on any other album. Written around the time of John Fogerty's divorce, this song expresses a genuine sense of heartache that you didn't normally see from the band at this time. Then again, by the time this song was eventually released to market, critics and fans had already washed their hands of the album and band. John Fogerty did have a prosperous solo career to look forward to, but "Someday Never Comes" is a sad lament of what could have been if CCR could have kept it together.
