10 Genuine Reactions That Made Songs Better
4. In My Time Of Dying - Led Zeppelin
Whilst recording their double album masterpiece Physical Graffiti, Led Zeppelin decided to lay down their own version of the traditional Blues song In My Time Of Dying. Using Bob Dylan’s cover of the same song as a guide, the band started to arrange, and structure the piece.
Led by John Bonham, all the various sections of the track were worked out, and they recorded it live in the studio. What followed was an absolute force of sound, highlighting the strengths of each band member’s skills as musicians.
After just over eleven minutes of music the song comes to an abrupt end. Yet, this was not the intended ending. The band were busy jamming away when, all of a sudden, Bonham stopped playing as he needed to cough. This caused the rest of the band to stop, at which point Bonham can heard saying “That’s got to be the one, hasn’t it?”, believing it was their best take. The rest of the band agreed and left it on the album to show fans that they were a band that took care in their recordings.
