10 Great Albums That Came Out After The Band Split Up
1. Nirvana - MTV Unplugged In New York
Despite the channel's deteriorating reputation in the eyes of rock fans over the past twenty years or so, there is no denying that the series of MTV Unplugged albums which came out throughout the 90’s were all fantastic. Including live sets from the likes of Midnight Oil, Stone Temple Pilots, Robert Plant, Kiss and Alice in Chains to name but a few, MTV Unplugged was arguably the top music based television show of the 1990’s.
For many, the MTV Unplugged performance by Nirvana in 1993 was the best episode the television series has ever produced. Recorded just two months after the release of the band’s third and final studio album, ‘In Utero’, this stripped back acoustic record is enough to give even the hardiest of rock fans chills. Amazing renditions of Nirvana classics such as ‘Come As You Are’, ‘Something in the Way’ and ‘About a Girl’ are a mere handful of the sensational tracks to feature on an honestly flawless record.
Sadly, the official physical release of the live album came a few months too late for lead vocalist Kurt Cobain. Cobain tragically took his own life in April 1994 and the band announced their break up immediately after, seven months before ‘MTV Unplugged in New York’ formally came out in CD and vinyl format.
