10 Great Covers Of The Beatles' Songs

8. Come Together - Roberta Flack

An underappreciated figure in music history, Roberta Flack possesses an extraordinary talent for interpreting songs, and a highly affecting vocal style. She was the first artist to win back-to-back Grammy Awards for Record Of The Year, and is probably best remembered for her hit single, Killing Me Softly With His Song. Flack's version of Come Together appeared on her 2012 album, Let It Be, which is entirely comprised of Beatles' covers.

The original appeared on Abbey Road – the last album which The Beatles' ever recorded (although not the last to be released). As a single, Come Together topped the charts in the US and hit number 4 in the UK. The song's origins lie with psychologist (and LSD advocate) Timothy Leary who, in 1969, planned to run for Governor of Californian, and asked Lennon to write him a song based on his campaign slogan: “Come Together – Join the Party.”

Flack brings a delicate, burning sensuality to the track, proving that, even in her later years, the singer still has plenty to offer.
