10 Great Hip Hop Albums With Only One Bad Song
3. Mamacita - OutKast
Towards the end of the '90s, OutKast seemed to be on the verge of something brilliant every time they stepped up to the mic. Having already released a mammoth album with ATLiens and Stankonia being just around the corner, Aquemini let their sessions morph into jams, making for some of the most organic bars of their career on stuff like Da Art of Storytellin or Rosa Parks. Just because the jam is going great doesn't mean that you have to include all of them on the record.
It almost feels wrong putting a song like Mamacita on here though, considering that most of the verses on here are actually pretty good. Big Boi is still his charismatic self, and Andre 3000 actually does a good job at keeping the vibe going for the rest of the track. And to tie everything together we have one of the worst hooks to ever come out of the '90s.
Instead of just putting together a good singalong or have Andre sing a few bars, having the call and response of Mamacita and Papa Donna going back and forth starts to grate on you the second time you hear it. Even though other songs take a little while to get annoying, this is the kind of turn off that comes almost immediately. By the time it comes back the 5th time around or so, it just stops sounding like words and just becomes noise. Andre and Big Boi, we love you, but y'all can do way better than this.
