10 Great Rock Bands Snubbed From The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

7. Sonic Youth - 13 Years

One genre that tends to get shafted in the Rock Hall's picks is post-punk. While some bands with post-punk tendencies like the Clash and the Cure have made it to the upper echelons, groups like Sonic Youth always seem to be left by the wayside.

As the punk explosion died down towards the end of the 70's, Sonic Youth were the band that combined the best elements from the punk scene and took the next step. From experimenting with strange tunings to making long droning epics, the band was a modern marvel. Along with other acts like Dinosaur Jr. and the Pixies, Sonic Youth helped create what we know now as alternative music. Their influence can be heard throughout the alt-rock boom of the 90's from touring with Nirvana to getting praise from musicians like Eddie Vedder.

With all of the classic lineup still alive and working to this day, a ceremony with Sonic Youth at the forefront would be something extremely special for fans. If the Rock Hall puts Sonic Youth through their ranks, it would be a righteous triumph for the alt-rock genre and a salute to a band that vitalized the experimental side of rock music.
