10 Great Rock Bands Who Never Released An Album

8. Jackal

Like it or love it, the high-tide of glam rock, as marked by Marc Bolan/T-Rex and David Bowie, brought up a lot of fascinating flotsam in its wake, none less so that Jackal, whose sole single, the quite extraordinary Year Of The Tiger, was released in 1974. It remains a startling and fascinating listen, a curious mix of high-energy proto-disco, garage-rock and weird lyrical imagery. Despite (or perhaps because of) that record's unique charms, Jackal dropped off the radar soon after.

Of singer Paul Sutton and drummer Gary Burroughs, little post-Jackal information exists. However, bassist Geoff Appleby did go on to contribute to records by Mott The Hoople and Screen Idols, and also put out a single or two under his own name.

The promise and originality shown on Year Of The Tiger, as with so much of the material on this list, offers a tantalising glimpse of what great music we could have had, but which slipped through the fickle fingers of fate.
