6. Gorillaz – Feel Good Inc.
Though the Gorillaz have been silent for some years now (though recently there's talk of the band recording a brand new album) there was a time when Feel Good Inc. dominated the radio, and the band were something of a sensation.
The band themselves are “virtual”, meaning the members of the group are depicted by virtual, animated personas, not actual human beings. Entirely fitting, then, that the video for Feel Good Inc. would be animated, combining CGI with more tradition 2D art. It tells the story of "2D", someone who dreams for the freedom to join Noodle on her floating island in the sky.
As with much the Gorillaz work, there's an underlying political message throughout, as the floating island represents liberation whereas those on the floor have been “dumbed down”. The animation is totally gorgeous, and it's no surprise the band has admitted to taking inspiration from Hayao Miyazaki's Castle In The Sky.
