10 Greatest Comeback Albums In Rock Music History

8. Death Magnetic - Metallica

It would have been a dark day for metal if St. Anger were the last thing that Metallica ever made. Even though they had gone through therapy and come out on the other side as stronger people, we weren't just going to ignore the fact that the resulting album was a piece of trash. It would take them a while to get their chops back, and boy were we happy that Metallica rediscovered their thrashiness.

Aside from a few more questionable production choices, Death Magnetic was the true return to form that most fans had been waiting to see since the days of And Justice For All. Being a throwback to their '80s work, this was the kind of thrash music that got most of us hooked on the band back in the day, with a few mellow tracks like The Day That Never Comes sprinkled in for good measure.

It's not like this album is going to give something like Master of Puppets a run for its money though. Whereas songs like All Nightmare Long and My Apocalypse are some of the greatest metal tracks of the modern age, nothing's going to compare to something like One or Fade To Black. Still, this was more than just a good record. It was a sign that one of the greatest metal bands of all time hadn't breathed their last breath just yet.
