10 Greatest Comebacks In Rock History

2. Band on the Run - Wings

There's no real road map that you can follow once you break up the greatest rock band in the world. While the Beatles had defined a generation with every single record they released in the '60s, the start of the new decade saw Paul McCartney unable to capture the initial magic that he found with the Fab Four. Though he tried to recreate the spark with his band Wings, it wasn't until Band on the Run until we really got to see rock's greatest melody writer back in the fold.

Rather than the more experimental material McCartney was working on up until this point, these songs were complete and catchy, from the three part epic on the title track to the delicate sounds of "Bluebird." It gets even more amazing when you realize most of it is done by just three people. When recording for the project, most of the band ended up quitting, with McCartney and his wife Linda left to finish off the project with songwriter Denny Laine.

While John Lennon and George Harrison may have already had stellar albums to their name, Band on the Run is the sound of McCartney dusting himself off and getting back to his roots and writing classic tunes almost like it's second nature. It won't necessarily equal McCartney's work with the Beatles, but this is about as close to a classic record that he could have conjured up after the everglow of the '60s.
