10 Greatest Female Singers In Rock History

2. Stevie Nicks - Fleetwood Mac

For as ridiculous as it sounds right now, there was a lot of questionable faces when Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham were drafted into Fleetwood Mac. Here was one of the staples of the British blues scene, and now it looked like they were about to sell out with two acolytes that seemed to be on the folk side of the spectrum. While it may have been far away from the blues, they traded up by having one of the most dynamic women in rock at their disposal.

While Christine McVie already integrated her way into the Mac for a few albums, there was always something otherworldly about how Stevie conducted herself onstage. From the way she presented herself to her manic behavior onstage, it almost seemed like she was being possessed by a witch every time she took to the stage, which became an idea that she wholeheartedly ran with.

When she ventured into the studio though, the songs she had took on a similar mystical quality, almost like she was tapping into some sort of magic. There might not be a lot of movement going on in a song like Dreams for instance, but in between the cracks is some of the most painfully transparent lyrics that have ever come out in the rock world. As time has gone on, Stevie's music has gone from being some of the catchiest pop songs to the confessions of rock's resident spirit. Not a bad trade for originally being called the sell out version of Fleetwood Mac.
