10 Greatest Hard Rock Debut Albums

1. Guns N’ Roses – Appetite For Destruction

In 1987, Guns N’ Roses changed the face of rock forever when they released their revolutionary debut album, Appetite For Destruction.

The record was loud, in-your-face, and helped bridge the gap between rock and metal in the most prosperous era for both genres.

The record was loud, in-your-face, and helped bridge the gap between rock and metal in the most prosperous era for both genres. Everything about the album is perfect, from the smooth-yet-impactful drumming of Steven Adler, to Duff Mckagan’s bass work, to the way Izzy Stradlin’s rhythm guitar ties in so harmoniously with the lead guitar work of Slash.

Slash and Axl Rose are the real stars of the show, with the former delivering some of the most innovative guitar work in the history of the genre, and the other displaying a ridiculously impressive vocal range.

The track listing reads more like a best-of compilation than a studio release, with so many of the band’s live staples featuring prominently, including Sweet Child O’ Mine, Paradise City, Welcome To The Jungle, It’s So Easy, Night Train, and Rocket Queen.

All things considered, Appetite For Destruction is a masterpiece, and will go down in history as the greatest debut album in all of hard rock.
