10 Greatest Hard Rock Debut Albums

3. Kiss – Kiss

Kiss inspired a generation when they released their self-titled debut album in 1974, and set themselves on the course to superstardom in the process.

Taking a few songs from their previous years as Wicked Lester, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons created a work of art, with help of course, from Ace Frehley and Peter Criss. The musical work on the album speaks for itself, with Gene Simmons delivering some of his more complex bass-lines, and Ace Frehley producing the best guitar solos of his original run with the group.

In terms of vocals, both Stanley and Criss have great outings, with Stanley fronting several of the album’s songs, while Criss takes the role of lead vocals on Black Diamond.

The track listing is near-perfect, featuring some of the band’s biggest hits like Strutter, Deuce, Cold Gin, and Firehouse, but also featuring some hugely underrated tracks like Nothin’ To Lose, 100,000 Years, and the instrumental Love Theme From Kiss.
